The launch of On This Day in Fashion

The headline explains my exile from blogging (and life) over the past six months: I finally launched my long-in-the-works project: OnThisDayInFashion.com!

The idea came after the book I wrote a few years back on the history of the skirt was published, and I began blogging little "On this Day in Fashion History" posts that related back to snippets from the book. I don't know if any of my posts inspired book sales (I'm ranked, like, 2 billionth on Amazon and I've since disabled all the old posts so I can hoard them for the new site), but the project did inspire my new website. Once I left the helm at Seattle Bride last December, I knew it was time to tackle this project that had been festering in the back of my brain for three years. So I'm thrilled to say, I did it!

So what is On This Day in Fashion? It's a daily magazine that delivers snippets of fashion news and trivia, and every Monday through Friday publishes The Stories Behind the Styles: feature articles about something fun, interesting, epic—or even macabre—that happened on that day in fashion history. Today's Story Behind the Styles, for instance, celebrates the 100-year anniversary of the founding of Women's Wear Daily, while yesterday's shared the details behind the release of "Too Funky," the Thierry Mugler directed video
featuring a whos-who of 1990s supermodels.

Today also marks the day in 1973 that Cleopatra Jones was released, a surprisingly (to me, anyway) fashion-forward film that is a must-see for anyone who gets inspired by fashion in film, so we published a Cinemode feature on it. (Trust me, Giorgio di Sant'Angelo will become your new favorite designer after you read that post).

Ultimately, On This Day In Fashion aims to be a living fashion encyclopedia, written editorial-style, recording moments in fashion on the day they happened in history. In addition to fashion-forward film-reviews, the Stories Behind the Styles, and daily fashion news updates (Fashion Alerts), we also publish Stylescopes, funny fashion horoscopes based on the people in fashion born on the same day, Fashion Statements, daily quotes and food-for-thought ideas from fashionistas and soon we'll include reviews of fashion books, shopping and event guides, and much, much more.

I'm certain anyone interested in fashion will find something to relate to on the site—if not find themselves losing hours of their day catching up with amazing moments in fashion on the day they happened. I look forward to hearing what you think of the site, how we can improve and what you'd like to see. Keep in touch!

Cheers,

喔!最悲慘的事並非夭折早逝,而是當我活到七十五歲,卻發現自己從未真正活過。.......................................................
